APPEARANCE, AROMA, + FLAVOR :
APPEARANCE;
As was the case when it was grown by Modern Flower, Blue Beach Haze is some of the best looking, best smoking, Cultivars to ever come from any of the Trulieve brands…I’m going to widen that remark to include all flower in Maryland. I was really pleased with what I encountered upon opening the ziplock: frost conically shaped dense buds with a thick clusters of dark red stigma/pistils/ “hairs”. The aroma of Blue Beach Haze leaves a bit to be desired and is mostly a reflection of the underwhelming terpene percentages. That being said, it does emit some classic herbaceous and citrus. One in particular is the essence of Grapefruit which is even more apparent upon exhale.
It seems that Roll One has managed to keep the optics vibrant with their Blue Beach Haze.
Here is the description I gave for Modern Flower’s version which I think still applies to the Roll One version of this strain:
“A multitude of color shifts are happening here from emerald green to dark purple, gold and pink pistils and a frosting of trichomes that only enhances the marbled appearance of the color swirl.”
Good For Bowls and Rolls:
quite suitable for all but note that this is densely cured bud and would definitely benefit from a good breaking down or grinding if you must sir.
Also, I think it’s important to give Trulieve or at least the Maryland employees of Roll One and Modern Flower for producing some of the best most consistently cultivated and cured cannabis this side of everywhere. They are so often underrated and relegated to the low quality or budget class due to their competitive pricing but I assure you nothing could be further from reality.
AROMA:
overall pretty underwhelming which can be predicted by the low terpene numbers
* A bland but non-prominent grassy aroma which seemed to become more pleasant after a day or two of opening and what can usually be attributed to a rushed cure.
Mostly marked by its Herbaceous lemon / lemon grass (very mild) and the a light skunk aroma.
Here’s Modern’s description:
Lipton’s Onion Soup Mix
Wild onion
Herbaceous lemon, and lavender
Base notes of an earthen pine sap -currie type aroma
FLAVOR (INHALE / EXHALE):
For its lack of terpene content, Blue Beach Haze has a very tolerable dare I say, pleasant flavor especially on exhale but its flavor is mostly benign due to the lower concentrations of terpenes.
Some traces of woody/ hops from the Caryophyllene
The Exhale was fairly smooth with a distinct flavor of ripened grapefruit. There is also some light hash-like flavor present.
EFFECTS (MIND + BODY):
MIND
- Delivers energized cerebral euphoria +/++
- Uplifting /mood elevating +/++/+++
- Increased tendency to be conversant +
- Stimulates creative impulses +/++
- Increases ability to focus +/++
- Potential for altered perception or distortion of sensory input aural; in this case in particular it is a distortion/amplification effect where sounds or noises may seem more amplified than usual, or more detailed, take new prominence etc. +/++/+++
+ micro 1 inhale
++ medium dose 2-3 large inhales
+++successive sessions over hours 6-12 large inhales
*NOTE: The potential perception— such as aural or cognitive is fairly high when ingesting large amounts Dog Patch.
Some my find the increased rapidity of thought to cause or exacerbate Anxiety.

+ micro 1 inhale
++ medium dose 2-3 large inhales

BEST USED: ALL DAY WITH APPROPRIATE DOSAGE
APPLICATIONS (MEDICINAL + RECREATIONAL:
MEDICINAL;
Note: Patients looking for relief from migraines and tension headaches, depression, lethargy or who struggle with a lack of appetite, and ADD/ ADHD may find Blue Beach Haze (Blue Dream) to be a perfect strain to meet their needs.
Can help mitigate or alleviate. some symptoms associated with:
- ADD/HD (Attention Deficit Disorder
- Anxiety/Depression/ Stress
- Eating Disorders/ Lack of appetite * +++
- muscle tension/stiffness/inflammation (most likely due to the higher levels of Myrcene and Caryophyllene) +++
- Could help mitigate migraine headache symptoms**
- I deal with migraines and I will say that both versions of Blue Beach Haze effectively reduced nausea brought on by migraine as well as general muscle tension relief especially in the neck and eye muscles.
PACKAGING:
Same as the Modern Ziplock, the Roll One is quite capable of doing all that a ziplock can do. As always, if you acquire a large quantity or you aren’t gonna smoke it all in one blaze of glory, I recommend transferring the buds to a sandwich bag ziplock and then storing THAT inside the supplied Roll One ziplock. This goes for ALL ziplock containers not just Modern Flower or Roll One, which are actually better constructed than most out there. Still trust me on this okay?
A CLOSER LOOK INSIDE
The terpene profile is more enriched and the numbers are a bit higher thus the overall terpene content percentage has been boosted.
There are also a few interesting points to be made regarding the terpenes
Blue Beach Haze Roll One
TOTAL TERPENE PERCENTAGE: 1.19%
TOP TERPENES:
- Beta-Myrcene 0.36%
- Beta-Caryophyllene 0.26%
- Trans- Nerolidol 0.12%
- Linalool 0.11
- Humulene 0.10%
Notice the prominence of Trans-Nerolidol here in the Roll One version. Also, as you can see, the Limonene content has pretty much fallen off to nothing at this point. Whereas the Caryophyllene level has risen considerably, bringing up the Humulene percentage with it (Humulene is Alpha -Caryophyllene).
Trans- Nerolidol is a neuron-protectant and a powerfully sedative terpene when combined with others such as Myrcene and Caryophyllene. It is thought to be very effective in reducing levels of acute anxiety.
Check out this article on Trans- Nerolidol
https://leafwell.com/blog/trans-nerolidol
Compare this to Modern Flower’s Blue Beach Haze (below):
Blue Beach Haze Modern Flower
TOTAL TERPENE PERCENTAGE: N/A
TOP TERPENES:
- Beta-Myrcene 0.36%
- Beta-Caryophyllene 0.16%
- Linalool 0.08%
- Limonene 0.04%
As anemic as the terpene profile of Blue Beach Haze may look, I think what we have here is a great example of the entourage effect where small concentrations of many terpenes coalesce together to create an overall effect greater than that of their individual parts.
CONCLUSION:
Blue Beach Haze is most likely the original recipe for Blue Dream, which is a cross of the famous Dutch Breeder Neville Shoenmaker’s “Haze” strain X Blueberry, from fellow famous breeder DJ Short.
This strain offers a wide spectrum of cerebral and physical effects that can pair with most any activity and state of mind. While not overwhelming the light physical euphoria helps establish a serenity for the more mental aspects of the Blue Beach Haze high to shine through. This is a cerebral sativa strain that can alleviate stress and enhance focus without ruining your day or making you too unmotivated or stationary to accomplish any tasks. The citrus and herbal notes of its exhale are precursors to a mostly heady high that doesn’t get in the way.
Seasoned cannabis connoisseurs will appreciate Blue Beach Haze, because its Shoenmaker Haze genetics may be a direct path or link to what many experts believe to be the original Blue Dream, Haze.
THE LONG ROAD HOME (My Toke)…
it seems that what I most enjoyed about MF version has not only made the migration but has become even more pronounced with the Roll One rendition of this flower.
I rather enjoyed Blue Beach Haze; the bud structure, the aroma and flavor, and the unobtrusive functional cerebral effects. Here we see all of this amplified…
Blue Beach Haze delivers a subtle yet enjoyable and effectively functional high. One thing to note is that Blue Beach Haze’s high-minded euphoria is not immediately felt and for that reason I would classify Blue Beach Haze as a sort of “creeper” strain.
Sometimes you encounter a strain that doesn’t walk tall or talk loud but seems to provide exactly what your head needs.
This is what you can expect from Blue Beach Haze. This batch was not carrying a very high concentration of terpenes overall (much more than the batches grown by sister brand Modern Flower)but it delivered an impactful effect albeit somewhat short-lived.
A Head with Wings….
Blue Beach Haze is energetically cerebral. At its best it’s a rather light airy effect that leaves you feeling mentally expansive and elevates you beyond any immediate concerns you may be harboring. However, in higher doses a strain like Blue Beach Haze can potentially cause some people to experience varying degrees of anxiety depending on mood and environment. This is a great strain to pair with a focus-driven pastime or work related task but it can also be a bit jarring when thrust into some social situations.
Generally speaking, and at least in my case the effect seemed to inspire creative focus.
There is a rush of cerebral stimulation that arrives a bit later than expected which reminds you that you medicated in the first place. There is no overwhelming stoniness or physical euphoria that is going to immobilize you into submission or make it difficult for you to navigate the grocery store; this is the strain that motivates you to go to the grocery store.
I wouldn’t expect anything to change that drastically simply because Trulieve moved this strain to one of its sister lines/brands, but the inconsistency in quality found in Maryland flower did give me pause before I ripped it open.
The Budweiser Principle…
Some years ago while talking to one of my brothers, a die-hard craft beer connoisseur, quality control in the world of Craft Brewers he told me a story which I could tell was giving him endless amounts of ironic joy to use Annheiser Busch as a benchmark as the example in the face of all those IPAS. He explained to me that the top Brewmasters in the world work for Annheiser Busch, Budweiser specifically. “And do you know why?” He asked slyly…
He followed with another question before I could even muster an answer, he shot me another…”Do you remember the first time you ever tasted a Budweiser beer?” “Yes” I retorted…”And, do you remember maybe the last time you had a Budweiser beer?” Again “yes” was the answer (it was easy for me to recall this since I have such pedestrian taste in Lager apparently. He quickly quipped that “he could not recall the last time he had one. “Did they taste the same?” He asked…”well yeah” I said. That’s consistency and THATS the most important thing…to provide consistency.
I would have to agree but it is almost impossible to apply this to present day commercial cannabis markets. And why is that? Is hops not a plant? Does yeast not require monitoring?. It is difficult, no impossible, for some cultivators in Maryland, and I’m sure in other markets, to keep things consistent from batch to batch. To know that you are getting Durban Poison, not some Terpinolene Myrcene bomb, when ordering Durban Poison must truly be a delight.
Heck knowing that the 2nd pre-roll in the two pack is going to be the same as the first can be a high hope.
So in light of that distinct lack of consistency, I’d say Trulieve or Roll One deserves some credit.
Much like Budwieser Blue Beach Haze has an extensively varied genetic background pulling from all corners of the known earth including but not limited to Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and South India. Not to mention

APPEARANCE:
Blue Beach Haze may be the best looking, best smoking, Cultivars to ever come from any of the Harvest brands…including Avenue (more on that later). I’m fairly certain that this optic treat is due in no small part to the Shoenmaker Haze genetics that they have procured and cultivated to make this, maybe my new favorite Harvest flower.
A multitude of color shifts are happening here from emerald green to dark purple, gold and pink pistils and a frosting of trichomes that only enhances the marbled appearance of the color swirl.
Good For Bowls and Rolls: quite suitable for all
PACKAGING:
Same as can be expected from Harvest – Modern Flower, and I have to say, I dig it.
I don’t really need a jar, BUT I am not a fan of the “high-tech” zip-lock either. Hard to say…but either way at least it’s stylish… and I dig that it is color designated for hybrid, indica, sativa even though those terms are inaccurate at best and obsolete at worst, for the most part they can at least help some people somewhat predict what effect any one flower may have.

NOTABLE:
The appearance of THCV/A is interesting and points toward this strains more equatorial or tropically based genetics. This cannabinoid is being studied extensively and besides its geographical marker it is known to bolster the focus and and energy sometimes present in Sativa strains.

THE LONG ROAD HOME (My Toke…)
I was so impressed with Blue Beach Haze that I went back three times just to be certain.
Each time I think I found more to like.
I’m somewhat partial to the melange of geo-historic genetic origins comprising the Haze variety of cannabis… Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and South India in fact …Haze strains heightens my senses, they stimulate my creative impulses …and the Dutch Haze I particularly enjoy …. I’ve been known to rant and rave like a stray cat about how “skunky” a Cultivar may be especially when said example Cultivar is known as a Skunk Strain…
…I do indeed enjoy them and I’ve been known to take Cinderella 99 out way past midnight more than a few times…in fact Jack Herer, is one of my favorite stains …created from breeding a Haze hybrid with Northern Lights #5 X Shiva Skunk…
Blue Beach Haze moves the needle for me in the same way…adding an almost airy empty sensation that feels to be emanating from my chest area and my brain tingling with expectant energy which quickly finds a home to apply pinpoint focus. At the same time an uplifted sense of completeness seems to wash over the entire experience leaving you more than comfortable in your own skin. Elevated in fact.
The high plateaus to level of distraction from all that may be trying to invade the fortress of your mind which has been lifted above the barricade …Repelling armies of stress and squadrons of worry leaving you serenely at high altitude in blue skies or rather, a Blue Beach Haze.
If I could make this a main stay flower I would.
Thank you so much. I very much enjoyed the deeper history background to better under how this Blue Beach is in the OG family in a way.
I came across this strain and going to review it myself. It is quite amazing, I got this round from Modern Flower here in Philly. It was a big deal in my eyes because here on the East cost I have not seen Blue Dream since. In Denver it’s always around and I began to think it was over rated. But after this awakening of a pandemic I really missed Blue Dream and noticed I could never find it. (Maybe at least for me) thanks again!
