Cherry Gorilla is generally known to be a very balanced Sativa/Indica (50/50% )Hybrid. Verano’s Cherry Gorilla is more of a Sativa dominant hybrid reflecting something closer to 70/30% Sativa/Indica. Although the physical Indica body ocular pressure and core warming seem to came on first, the Sativa arrives soon after with an intensity that carries this strain to its peak. This is a very uplifting strain which is attributed, in part, to a high level of limonene (0.636% in this particular batch). Limonene is a modulator of THC, and you can really feel it exerting it’s influence here. The African landrace roots in its Cherry Pie genetics definitely extend through to the effects of Cherry Gorilla. racing thought patterns, sensations of uplifted, intense, and even a sort of excited euphoria were present and quite long lasting. The THC concentration is very high at .77% where normally I see levels between 0.1-2.0 or similar. This batch of this strain seems to be pulling quite a high number of derived THC from THCa, and therefore, it really amplifies the strain’s effects. Even at 24% THCa, this batch of Cherry Gorilla is more potent than strains above 30%, especially if they are only deriving, say .12% THC from 30% THCa. The sedative effects of GG4 bring muscle tension relief and a soothing sense of well-being which carry the head-buzz to new, and I believe, longer lasting heights. This is would be a very nice morning and daytime strain, but I found it suitable for the whole day. It was really effective for concentration and creativity and a very functional strain overall in my opinion.

APPEARANCE (consistency) :

This is a very attractive strain with its intense green offset with intensely saturated orange stigma and crystal white trichomes.

Good  For Bowls and Rolls:  Nice, perfectly mature appearing, but somewhat, dry, and fragile calyx (“buds”)which, were easily broken up into a fine grain without requiring a grinder.

The calyx (“buds”) were tightly cured in spires that created small funnels throughout somewhat resembling the surface of rice based chocolate bars.

Plenty of fully mature red and orange stigma (“hairs”), and shiny crystalline trichomes gathered in concentrated clusters adorn the surface.

AROMA:

  • sour-fuel (from its GG4 roots)
  • earth- pine 
  • spice-anise/licorice
  • artificial cherry pie filling.  

TASTE: 

  • spice-anise (from the Cherry Pie genetics)
  • earth
  • fuel-diesel (on exhale- from the Chocolate Diesel in GG4’s family tree)

A CLOSER LOOK INSIDE:

The hefty portion of  myrcene (over 4%) provides patients with an abundance of soothing Indica muscle relaxation.  It is worthy to note that there are two versions of the terperne pinene in this batch of Cherry Gorilla. 

This must add to the intensity of psychoactive qualities.  With over 1.757% terpene content, Cherry Gorilla is another fine example of the entourage effect and its ability to modulate a strain’s efficacy and strength.

THE LONG WAY HOME (my toke)

I thoroughly enjoyed Verano’s Cherry Gorilla. I was expecting more of an even or balanced distribution of Sativa/Indica effects.

But I found that the more classic Sativa effects seemed to intensify their role for the better part of a good 30-40 minute period. The amount of inspiring, creative, and overall euphoric sensations I experienced were, for me, very pleasurable.  However, I think for some it may be a bit anxiety producing if they tend to shrink back from head-buzz heavy Sativa strains.

I think it’s worth noting that each time I medicated with this strain I was almost brought to tears and sneezing with the tingling sensation I received when exhaling through my nose. I would think this is attributable to the caryophyllene, however the levels seemed rather low coming in at 0.132%.

The smoke itself was thick and rich and seemed to expand as Indica strains sometimes seem to do.

I would definitely purchase Verano’s Cherry Gorilla again. However I do think that it should be considered a very strong Sativa dominant hybrid rather than by its traditional composition at 50/50% Sativa/Indica.
